What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is surgery that takes excess subcutaneous fat out of problem zones. It does not make you lose weight and does not replace diet or exercise. What it does is targeted contouring — removing thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

If certain areas hold fat while your weight is normal and your lifestyle active, liposuction is for you. Fat cells removed from treated areas do not come back, which means that with a stable lifestyle the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A special solution based on saline, with lidocaine, adrenaline and some other agents, is injected into the area first. It softens the fat tissue and constricts vessels, minimising blood loss and making removal gentle. After that, a thin cannula removes the fat emulsion by vacuum.

Swelling and bruising are close to none after the operation, and recovery is considerably easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Here fat cells are broken down with ultrasound before vacuum removal — an ideal method for defining pronounced muscle relief (athletic abs) and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

At the visit the doctor listens to your goals, examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. City Medical Centre adds a hormonal screening, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood work — complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection tests for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis — plus ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation if required.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medicines that affect blood clotting. A week before, give up alcohol and smoking to heal faster. 8 hours before, have your last meal.

Surgery day

Meeting your surgeon, marking the areas and fitting compression garments. Depending on the scope, anesthesia is local or general.
Surgery time: 1 hour for small areas, up to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

After general anesthesia — one day under observation in hospital. After local anesthesia — home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. First results show in 3–4 weeks as swelling goes down. The final result is assessed at 3 months, once the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Recovery is much shorter after tumescent liposuction than after a conventional procedure, and most patients resume work within 3–7 days. The first week may bring mild swelling and a raised temperature — a normal response to surgery. Wearing compression garments for 30–45 days fixes the new contours and speeds up tissue recovery. For one month, the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster healing, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. You'll see first changes in 3–4 weeks and the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

About liposuction for patients from Siliguri

Liposuction is minimally invasive: fat is removed through micro-incisions of just a few millimetres that usually need no stitches and become barely visible once healed. Before surgery the surgeon assesses skin tone and elasticity, because firm skin tightens on its own along the new contours. If you are considering liposuction in Siliguri with stretch marks or reduced tone, preparatory treatments may be recommended.

Duration depends on scope: from about one hour for a small area to three or four hours for a combined procedure. Anaesthesia is local or general depending on how much is treated. After general anaesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation; after local anaesthesia you go home three to four hours later. The same approach applies to patients from Siliguri.

What does the first step cost? Nothing: the plastic surgeon consultation is free. At it you learn whether liposuction suits you, which method fits your zones and what the final price will be, starting from $1,200 (≈ ₹120,000). People in Siliguri can fill in the short form or write in any messenger, and the coordinator will get back to you shortly to arrange a convenient time.
