What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is an operation to remove excess subcutaneous fat from problem zones, not a way to slim down or to skip diet and exercise. It is aimed at targeted contouring — removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging tummy and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction works for you if specific areas hold on to fat even though your weight is normal and you stay active. Fat cells removed from those areas don't grow back, so with a stable lifestyle the result stays for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First the treatment area receives a special saline-based solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The fat tissue loosens and the vessels constrict, so blood loss is minimal and removal gentle. The fat emulsion is then drawn out by vacuum via a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising after surgery are almost absent, and recovering is much easier than with a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound breaks down fat cells before they are removed by vacuum. It is the ideal method for bringing out muscle relief — athletic abs — and contouring the body.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor discusses your wishes, carries out an examination, assesses fat deposits and rules out any contraindications. A hormonal screening is also ordered at City Medical Centre to help predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

A chest X-ray, ECG and blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), plus a GP consultation if needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

You meet the surgeon, the areas are marked and compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia is local or general, depending on the scope.
Time on the table: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

One day of hospital observation with general anesthesia; with local anesthesia you leave 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Wear compression garments for 30–45 days. You see first results in 3–4 weeks when swelling subsides, and the final result in 3–6 months, when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction you recover much faster than after a conventional procedure — most patients are back at work in 7–10 days. A little swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are a normal response to surgery. Compression garments stay on for 30–45 days, fixing the new contours and speeding up tissue recovery. In the first month, avoid the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport. To get the best result and recover faster, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. Visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks and the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

How liposuction works for Mosul residents

The aim is not a smaller number on the scales but a better shape. Liposuction targets saddlebags, back rolls, a belly that will not flatten and fat on the arms, chin or knees. For patients from Mosul, the result depends on one key fact: removed fat cells do not return, while the remaining ones can still grow with weight gain, so a balanced diet keeps the contour for the long term.

Is it painful? No: the procedure is done under anaesthesia, local or general depending on scope. Afterwards mild discomfort is possible and is relieved with painkillers prescribed by the doctor. Most patients return to their usual routine in 7–10 days, while swelling and bruising resolve by weeks 4–5. That is the typical course for people in Mosul after liposuction.

How much is liposuction in Mosul? Prices start at $1,200 (≈ IQD 1,600,000), depending on the zone and the scope of surgery. Treating several areas in one operation often saves both recovery time and budget. The exact cost is confirmed once the surgeon has examined you, and it is then fixed in the contract.
