What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction means surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from specific problem areas. It is not for losing weight and cannot stand in for diet and exercise. It is about targeted body contouring: saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging abdomen, fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

If certain areas hold fat while your weight is normal and your lifestyle active, liposuction is for you. Fat cells removed from treated areas do not come back, which means that with a stable lifestyle the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A special solution based on saline, with lidocaine, adrenaline and some other agents, is injected into the area first. It softens the fat tissue and constricts vessels, minimising blood loss and making removal gentle. After that, a thin cannula removes the fat emulsion by vacuum.

Post-op swelling and bruising are barely there, and recovery is much easier than after a traditional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound is used to break down fat cells ahead of vacuum removal. The method is ideal when you want clear muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor hears your wishes, examines and assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is also ordered, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

A chest X-ray, ECG and blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), plus a GP consultation if needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Meeting your surgeon, marking the areas and fitting compression garments. Depending on the scope, anesthesia is local or general.
From 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours when procedures are combined.

Waking up and monitoring

Under general anesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation. Under local anesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

The compression period is 30–45 days. First results emerge in 3–4 weeks, once swelling is down, and the final result is assessed in 3–6 months when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Most patients return to work within 7–10 days, as recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. In the first week, expect possible mild swelling and a raised temperature — the body's normal response to surgery. For 30–45 days you wear compression garments that fix the new contours and speed up recovery of the tissues. Skip the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport for the first month. We advise lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and returning to activity step by step for the best result and quicker recovery. First visible changes in 3–4 weeks, final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Everything about body contouring in Kirkuk

Liposuction is not only a women's procedure. The abdomen and flanks are the top request for both sexes, and in men the chest is a separate case: the fat component of gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia can be removed surgically. VASER, with ultrasound breakdown of fat, helps define pronounced muscle relief. Men in Kirkuk can discuss which technique suits their goals at the consultation.

Here is the route in brief. Consultation and hormonal screening. Blood tests, ECG and chest X-ray at the clinic. Two weeks of preparation. Marking and compression garments on the day, then surgery under local or general anaesthesia. Observation, discharge, 30–45 days in compression and check-ups at 7 days and 3 months. Patients in Kirkuk follow this same sequence.

The cost is built around your zones: from $1,200 (≈ IQD 1,600,000) for the most compact area, rising for larger combinations such as the torso or the abdomen with flanks. Nothing is added later, because the contract fixes the price. Kirkuk residents can split payment into interest-free instalments and begin with a free surgeon consultation, booked through the form on the page.
