What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Excess fat under the skin in problem areas is removed surgically — that is liposuction. It is not a weight-loss tool and no substitute for diet or exercise. The goal is precise contouring: taking away thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction suits people whose specific areas hold on to fat despite a normal weight and an active lifestyle. The key point: fat cells removed from treated areas do not grow back, so with a steady lifestyle the result lasts for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A special solution based on saline, with lidocaine, adrenaline and some other agents, is injected into the area first. It softens the fat tissue and constricts vessels, minimising blood loss and making removal gentle. After that, a thin cannula removes the fat emulsion by vacuum.

There is almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound is used to break down fat cells ahead of vacuum removal. The method is ideal when you want clear muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

We listen to your wishes: the doctor examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre there is also a hormonal screening that helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests covering complete count, coagulation, biochemistry and infections (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation when needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before surgery, drop medicines that affect clotting. One week before, stop drinking and smoking for faster healing. Last meal — 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Consultation with the surgeon, area marking and fitting of compression garments. Anesthesia is local or general, per the scope.
Duration ranges from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

General anesthesia means one day in hospital under observation; with local anesthesia, discharge is 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments stay on for 30–45 days. Once swelling subsides, first results are visible in 3–4 weeks. At 3–6 months, with the skin fully tightened, the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks, the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

About liposuction for patients from Damascus

The operation is performed for adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications, and there is no upper age limit: the decision is made individually after an examination. Contraindications include endocrine obesity, decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anyone from Damascus with a chronic condition should discuss it with a clinic doctor first.

It starts with a surgeon consultation: the doctor listens to your wishes, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications, and a hormonal screening is ordered to predict the long-term result. Patients from Damascus then take pre-operative tests — blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection screening, ECG and chest X-ray — which can all be done at the clinic with no waiting.

One operation can cover several problem zones, and the price reflects that: from $1,200 (≈ SYP 150,000) for a single area, calculated individually for combinations. The contract fixes the sum with no hidden extras, and instalments carry no interest. For patients from Damascus, a free surgeon consultation is the place to plan scope and cost together. Leave a request to book yours.
