What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas is what liposuction offers. It is no weight-loss method and no substitute for diet or exercise; its aim is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly and deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction suits people with a normal weight and active lifestyle who still have fat in particular areas. Remember the key point: treated areas don't regrow their removed fat cells, so with steady habits the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First the treatment area receives a special saline-based solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The fat tissue loosens and the vessels constrict, so blood loss is minimal and removal gentle. The fat emulsion is then drawn out by vacuum via a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising after surgery are almost absent, and recovering is much easier than with a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound is used to break down fat cells ahead of vacuum removal. The method is ideal when you want clear muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

Your wishes are heard, then the doctor examines you, assesses fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is ordered too, helping to predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

You will need blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), an ECG, a chest X-ray and, if necessary, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Medicines that affect blood clotting — stop them 2 weeks before. Alcohol and smoking — stop a week before so you heal faster. The last meal — 8 hours before.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
It takes from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

General anesthesia means one day in hospital under observation; with local anesthesia, discharge is 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

You wear compression for 30–45 days. First results come in 3–4 weeks as the swelling fades; the final result is evaluated at 3 months after the skin fully tightens.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 3–7 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks, the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Everything about body contouring in Chennai

Liposuction is minimally invasive: fat is removed through micro-incisions of just a few millimetres that usually need no stitches and become barely visible once healed. Before surgery the surgeon assesses skin tone and elasticity, because firm skin tightens on its own along the new contours. If you are considering liposuction in Chennai with stretch marks or reduced tone, preparatory treatments may be recommended.

Preparation follows a simple schedule. Two weeks before surgery, medications that affect blood clotting are stopped; a week before, alcohol and smoking are cut out for faster healing; the last meal is eight hours before the operation. On the day itself, the surgeon meets you, marks the areas and fits compression garments. This is the routine for everyone in Chennai.

The cost is built around your zones: from $1,200 for the most compact area, rising for larger combinations such as the torso or the abdomen with flanks. Nothing is added later, because the contract fixes the price. Chennai residents can split payment into interest-free instalments and begin with a free surgeon consultation, booked through the form on the page.
