What is a tummy tuck
and who is it for?

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is surgical tightening of the front abdominal wall that removes excess stretched skin and fat. It is not a weight-loss method and does not replace diet and exercise. The goal is a flat abdominal contour: removing the overhanging skin-and-fat apron, repairing separated rectus muscles and, if needed, creating a new navel.

This surgery is chosen for excess skin and diastasis — separation of the rectus abdominis muscles — left after childbirth, a C-section or major weight loss. Diet and exercise can't correct it: stretched skin doesn't shrink and separated muscles don't rejoin without surgery. Pregnancy should be 12 months or more later, and there is no surgery while breastfeeding.

Tummy tuck techniques at City Medical Centre

Classic tummy tuck

A classic tummy tuck starts with a horizontal incision above the pubic area; how long it is depends on the excess tissue. The scar is placed so underwear and swimwear cover it. The surgeon repairs the separated rectus muscles, removes excess skin and fat, moves the navel and places drains, taking 2–4 hours under general anaesthesia.

Suitable for marked excess skin, rectus diastasis and a C-section scar.

Mini tummy tuck with diastasis repair

A mini tummy tuck is for a narrower issue — only the lower abdomen is corrected, through a shorter incision, and the navel is not moved. It is used with a small amount of excess skin where the key concern is diastasis or overhang above a C-section scar; recovery is then shorter. The surgeon selects the technique at an in-person consultation after assessing the abdominal muscles and skin.

Less traumatic, with shorter recovery, when excess skin is minor.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The surgeon listens to your wishes, examines you, assesses fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormone screening is also ordered — it helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-surgery check-up

Blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop medicines affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before. Avoid alcohol and smoking for the final week, for faster healing. Eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

The surgeon meets you and marks the skin; compression garments are fitted. The operation is under general anaesthesia and takes 2–4 hours.

Waking up and monitoring

For 1–3 days after surgery the patient stays in hospital, under medical supervision.

Recovery

Compression binder for 1.5–2 months. Most swelling subsides within 30 days; office work resumes after 2–3 weeks. The final result is assessed at 3 months.

Recovery after a tummy tuck

Straight after surgery the patient spends 1–3 days in hospital under medical supervision. Drains are usually removed on day two, and stitches after 7 days. A compression binder is worn for 1.5–2 months — it supports the abdominal wall and shapes a smooth contour. Most swelling resolves within 30 days, and office work resumes after 2–3 weeks. Sports, sauna and heavy lifting are off-limits for 2–3 months, and sleeping on your back with knees bent is advised at first. The scar matures fully by 12 months, fading and becoming barely noticeable.

Tummy tuck: frequently asked questions

Tummy tuck with liposuction or diastasis repair — can they be combined?

Yes, combining is allowed and extremely common. Liposuction of the waist and flanks is added to a tummy tuck, as is rectus diastasis repair after childbirth. With this combination, recovery is shorter, and the surgeon will tell you in person at a consultation how extensive the procedure will be.

Choosing abdominoplasty in Raipur

Who is a candidate? Adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications; there is no upper age limit, and each case is considered after an examination. Surgery is done at a stable weight and is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindications also include decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer and serious heart, kidney or liver disease. Raipur patients get a personal assessment.

Pre-surgery tests should be completed in advance, not the day before. The surgeon gives the exact list at the consultation, and results are usually valid for 10–14 days. Seven to ten days before the operation, stop smoking, alcohol and medicines that affect blood clotting. Anyone in Raipur preparing for a tummy tuck also sees a GP and an anaesthetist before the surgery date.

Nothing about the cost is hidden. The surgeon sets the price for abdominoplasty after a free in-person examination, and that amount is fixed in the contract. The surgeon stays in touch throughout recovery, and check-ups are part of the plan. For people from Raipur, the fastest way to get an exact figure is to leave a request; a coordinator will call and book a time.
