What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas is what liposuction offers. It is no weight-loss method and no substitute for diet or exercise; its aim is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly and deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A saline-based special solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is first injected into the treatment zone. By loosening the fat tissue and constricting vessels, it minimises blood loss and allows gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then vacuumed out through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising after surgery are almost absent, and recovering is much easier than with a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

We listen to your wishes: the doctor examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre there is also a hormonal screening that helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks ahead: no medications that affect blood clotting. A week ahead: no alcohol or smoking, for quicker healing. 8 hours ahead: the last meal.

Surgery day

Meeting the surgeon, area marking and compression garment fitting. The type of anesthesia, local or general, depends on the scope.
The operation lasts 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

One day of hospital observation with general anesthesia; with local anesthesia you leave 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments are needed for 30–45 days. In 3–4 weeks the swelling subsides and first results appear; the final result is assessed in 3–6 months with the skin fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Compared with a conventional procedure, recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter: most patients go back to work within 7–10 days. Mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are possible and normal after surgery. Compression garments, worn for 30–45 days, fix the new contours and speed tissue recovery. The bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits for the first month. Lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity help achieve the best result and faster recovery. First changes are visible in 3–4 weeks; the final result comes in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

How liposuction works for Suez residents

It is worth being clear about what the surgery does not do. Liposuction does not treat obesity and is not a way to lose kilos; if your weight is unstable, a nutritionist or endocrinologist comes first. Nor does it change the skin structure behind cellulite, although smoother contours make it less visible. What it does for people in Suez is remove local fat and reshape the silhouette.

Inside the operating room the process is gentle. With the tumescent method a solution of saline, lidocaine and adrenaline is injected into the area, loosening the fat and narrowing vessels. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula. With VASER, ultrasound breaks down fat cells first. Either way, patients from Suez get micro-incisions that are barely visible later.

What does the first step cost? Nothing: the plastic surgeon consultation is free. At it you learn whether liposuction suits you, which method fits your zones and what the final price will be, starting from $1,200 (≈ EGP 63,000). People in Suez can fill in the short form or write in any messenger, and the coordinator will get back to you shortly to arrange a convenient time.
