What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction means surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from specific problem areas. It is not for losing weight and cannot stand in for diet and exercise. It is about targeted body contouring: saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging abdomen, fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First, a special saline-based solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is injected into the area. It loosens fat tissue and constricts the vessels, keeping blood loss to a minimum and allowing gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then suctioned out through a thin cannula.

There is almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

First ultrasound breaks down the fat cells, then they are removed by vacuum. The method is ideal for pronounced muscle relief, such as athletic abs, and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines you and assesses the fat deposits, ruling out contraindications. City Medical Centre also prescribes a hormonal screening, useful for predicting the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Complete blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry and infection tests (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), an ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a consultation with a GP.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medicines that affect blood clotting. A week before, give up alcohol and smoking to heal faster. 8 hours before, have your last meal.

Surgery day

On the day you meet the surgeon, the areas are marked and compression garments fitted. Anesthesia — local or general, depending on the scope.
Allow from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

With general anesthesia — one day in hospital under observation. With local anesthesia — discharge 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days; first results in 3–4 weeks as the swelling subsides; the final result assessed in 3–6 months, when the skin has tightened fully.

Recovery after liposuction

Tumescent liposuction has a much shorter recovery than a conventional procedure, and most patients return to work in 7–10 days. During the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature can occur — this is a normal reaction to surgery. You wear compression garments for 30–45 days; they hold the new contours and help tissues recover faster. No bathhouse, sauna, pool or intense sport in the first month. We recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and gradually returning to activity for the best result and faster recovery. Visible changes start in 3–4 weeks, and the final result is seen in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Riyadh step by step

Liposuction is a surgical method of removing excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas. It is not a weight-loss tool and does not replace diet or exercise: its purpose is targeted contouring. Patients from Riyadh most often ask about saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly, and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin. Fat cells taken from treated areas do not grow back, so with a steady lifestyle the result lasts.

Results appear in stages. The first changes show about two weeks after surgery as the main swelling subsides, visible contouring comes at 3–4 weeks, and the interim result is assessed at 1.5–2 months. The final contours form within 3–6 months, once the skin has fully tightened and the tissues have adapted. Patients from Riyadh see the surgeon at check-ups after 7 days and 3 months.

A free consultation is the easiest way to get an exact figure. The surgeon assesses the fat deposits, skin tone and your health, suggests the technique and the scope of surgery, and gives the price; liposuction starts from $1,200 (≈ SAR 4,500). Apply before the end of the year and the consultation is at the clinic's expense. Patients from Riyadh can apply via the form or any messenger.
