What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is a surgical way to remove surplus subcutaneous fat from troublesome areas. It is not meant for weight loss or as an alternative to diet and exercise. Instead, it sculpts specific zones: thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction works for you if specific areas hold on to fat even though your weight is normal and you stay active. Fat cells removed from those areas don't grow back, so with a stable lifestyle the result stays for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

Step one is injecting a special solution — saline with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents — into the treatment area. It loosens the fat and tightens the vessels, keeping blood loss minimal and removal gentle. Then the fat emulsion is removed through a thin cannula using vacuum.

There is almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, ultrasound breaks the fat cells down. This makes the method ideal for body contouring and for defining pronounced muscle relief, i.e. athletic abs.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor hears your wishes, examines and assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is also ordered, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks ahead: no medications that affect blood clotting. A week ahead: no alcohol or smoking, for quicker healing. 8 hours ahead: the last meal.

Surgery day

The surgeon meets you, marks the areas and fits the compression garments. Local or general anesthesia is used depending on the scope.
Surgery time: 1 hour for small areas, up to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

If anesthesia is general, you stay in hospital for one day under observation. If it is local, you are discharged 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

The compression period is 30–45 days. First results emerge in 3–4 weeks, once swelling is down, and the final result is assessed in 3–6 months when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Compared with a conventional procedure, recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter: most patients go back to work within 7–10 days. Mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are possible and normal after surgery. Compression garments, worn for 30–45 days, fix the new contours and speed tissue recovery. The bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits for the first month. Lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity help achieve the best result and faster recovery. First changes are visible in 3–4 weeks; the final result comes in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Everything about body contouring in Nasiriyah

Liposuction is not only a women's procedure. The abdomen and flanks are the top request for both sexes, and in men the chest is a separate case: the fat component of gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia can be removed surgically. VASER, with ultrasound breakdown of fat, helps define pronounced muscle relief. Men in Nasiriyah can discuss which technique suits their goals at the consultation.

Recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. Mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are a normal response. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days to fix the new contours. For those in Nasiriyah, lymphatic drainage massage and pressotherapy are recommended to speed things up.

One operation can cover several problem zones, and the price reflects that: from $1,200 (≈ IQD 1,600,000) for a single area, calculated individually for combinations. The contract fixes the sum with no hidden extras, and instalments carry no interest. For patients from Nasiriyah, a free surgeon consultation is the place to plan scope and cost together.
