What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction surgically removes excess fat under the skin from problem areas. It is neither a weight-loss method nor a replacement for diet and exercise. The aim is targeted contouring: getting rid of saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction suits people whose specific areas hold on to fat despite a normal weight and an active lifestyle. The key point: fat cells removed from treated areas do not grow back, so with a steady lifestyle the result lasts for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

Into the treatment area goes a special saline-based solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. It loosens fat tissue and narrows the vessels, keeping blood loss minimal and letting the fat be removed gently. The resulting emulsion is suctioned out through a thin cannula.

After surgery, bruising and swelling are nearly absent and recovery goes much more easily than after a standard procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

With this method, ultrasound breaks down fat cells prior to vacuum removal. It is ideal for body contouring and for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

Your doctor listens to what you want, examines you, assesses fat deposits and rules out contraindications. City Medical Centre also orders a hormonal screening — it helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests (full blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation if needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
Surgery time: 1 hour for small areas, up to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

If anesthesia is general, you stay in hospital for one day under observation. If it is local, you are discharged 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days; first results in 3–4 weeks as the swelling subsides; the final result assessed at 3 months, when the skin has tightened fully.

Recovery after liposuction

Most patients return to work within 3–7 days, as recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. In the first week, expect possible mild swelling and a raised temperature — the body's normal response to surgery. For 30–45 days you wear compression garments that fix the new contours and speed up recovery of the tissues. Skip the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport for the first month. We advise lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and returning to activity step by step for the best result and quicker recovery. First visible changes in 3–4 weeks, final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Everything about body contouring in Cuttack

Liposuction is not only a women's procedure. The abdomen and flanks are the top request for both sexes, and in men the chest is a separate case: the fat component of gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia can be removed surgically. VASER, with ultrasound breakdown of fat, helps define pronounced muscle relief. Men in Cuttack can discuss which technique suits their goals at the consultation.

Follow-up does not end at discharge. The surgeon stays in touch throughout recovery, and planned check-ups take place at 7 days and at 3 months. Until the end of the year, a post-op follow-up consultation with the surgeon is at the clinic's expense, to review the result and answer questions. Patients from Cuttack also get advice on returning gradually to activity.

Liposuction in Cuttack costs from $1,200. The exact amount depends on which areas you want to correct — abdomen, flanks, thighs, back, arms, chin or knees — and on whether they are combined in one operation. The surgeon calculates it individually after the examination. The first consultation is free, and a coordinator will book it once you leave a request.
