What is liposuction
and who is it for?

As a surgical method, liposuction removes surplus fat beneath the skin in problem areas. Don't treat it as weight loss or as a substitute for diet and exercise: its purpose is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a drooping belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

It begins with injecting a special solution into the area: saline plus lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The solution loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, so there is little blood loss and removal is gentle. After this, the fat emulsion is removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising are close to none after the operation, and recovery is considerably easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

First ultrasound breaks down the fat cells, then they are removed by vacuum. The method is ideal for pronounced muscle relief, such as athletic abs, and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines and assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is also ordered — it helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests covering complete count, coagulation, biochemistry and infections (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation when needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medications that affect blood clotting. A week before, stop alcohol and smoking for faster healing. 8 hours before, the last meal.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
Length of surgery: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

Under general anesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation. Under local anesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days; first results in 3–4 weeks as the swelling subsides; the final result assessed in 3–6 months, when the skin has tightened fully.

Recovery after liposuction

Tumescent liposuction has a much shorter recovery than a conventional procedure, and most patients return to work in 7–10 days. During the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature can occur — this is a normal reaction to surgery. You wear compression garments for 30–45 days; they hold the new contours and help tissues recover faster. No bathhouse, sauna, pool or intense sport in the first month. We recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and gradually returning to activity for the best result and faster recovery. Visible changes start in 3–4 weeks, and the final result is seen in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Algiers step by step

The operation is performed for adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications, and there is no upper age limit: the decision is made individually after an examination. Contraindications include endocrine obesity, decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anyone from Algiers with a chronic condition should discuss it with a clinic doctor first.

Inside the operating room the process is gentle. With the tumescent method a solution of saline, lidocaine and adrenaline is injected into the area, loosening the fat and narrowing vessels. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula. With VASER, ultrasound breaks down fat cells first. Either way, patients from Algiers get micro-incisions that are barely visible later.

There are no surprises in the bill: the price is set after an examination, recorded in the contract and stays the same. Starting from $1,200 (≈ DZD 165,000) per area, liposuction can be paid in interest-free instalments. Patients from Algiers begin with a free consultation where the surgeon answers questions about technique, recovery and contraindications before anything is decided.
