What is liposuction
and who is it for?

In liposuction, the surgeon removes excess fat lying under the skin in problem areas. It won't replace diet and exercise, and it is not a weight-loss method. Its job is targeted contouring: removing saddlebags on the thighs, a loose belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

The procedure is right for people with a normal weight and active lifestyle whose certain areas still store fat. Key fact: removed fat cells do not return to treated areas, so with a steady routine the result is long-lasting.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A saline-based special solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is first injected into the treatment zone. By loosening the fat tissue and constricting vessels, it minimises blood loss and allows gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then vacuumed out through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising after surgery are almost absent, and recovering is much easier than with a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

First ultrasound breaks down the fat cells, then they are removed by vacuum. The method is ideal for pronounced muscle relief, such as athletic abs, and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

Your wishes are heard, then the doctor examines you, assesses fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is ordered too, helping to predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

ECG, chest X-ray, blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis and syphilis) and, where needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Meeting your surgeon, marking the areas and fitting compression garments. Depending on the scope, anesthesia is local or general.
It takes from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

With general anesthesia — one day in hospital under observation. With local anesthesia — discharge 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days. First results in 3–4 weeks, once swelling subsides. The final result is assessed in 3–6 months, when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients are back at work within 7–10 days. Mild swelling and a slightly raised temperature are possible in the first week — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days to fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. For the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and quicker recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes come in 3–4 weeks, the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What Al Ain residents ask about liposuction

Two techniques are used. In tumescent liposuction a saline-based solution with lidocaine and adrenaline is injected first; it loosens fat and constricts vessels, so blood loss is minimal and there is almost no bruising. In VASER liposuction ultrasound breaks down fat cells before vacuum removal, which suits athletic abs and delicate zones. The surgeon picks the method for each patient in Al Ain.

Here is the route in brief. Consultation and hormonal screening. Blood tests, ECG and chest X-ray at the clinic. Two weeks of preparation. Marking and compression garments on the day, then surgery under local or general anaesthesia. Observation, discharge, 30–45 days in compression and check-ups at 7 days and 3 months. Patients in Al Ain follow this same sequence.

Liposuction starts from $1,200 (≈ AED 4,450) for a single area, and the final figure is calculated individually after an examination. For patients from Al Ain, the price is fixed in the contract with no hidden extras, and interest-free instalments are available. The first consultation with the surgeon is free: leave your name and phone number, and a coordinator will contact you to book it.
