What is regenerative
joint treatment?

Instead of implants or foreign substances, regenerative joint treatment uses you as the source: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your blood and the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) from a small adipose tissue sample. It is injected into the troubled joint to lower pain and inflammation and support the tissues inside.

It is an option for people with joint pain who want to avoid or postpone surgery, or who have been told that joint replacement is the only choice. The earlier the stage of the condition, the better the chance of a lasting effect — the doctor assesses this from your scans.

Joints we treat

Both large and small joints are treated; the joint, the method and the number of injections are chosen by the doctor once your scans are reviewed

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

SVF (stromal vascular fraction) is a mixture of cells involved in tissue repair, isolated from a small sample of your adipose tissue. Combined with plasma from your own body, it is injected directly into the affected joint.

It is usually the choice when changes in the joint are more marked and the aim is a longer-lasting effect.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

From a small blood sample, plasma rich in platelets and growth factors is separated and injected into the joint. It helps ease inflammation and creates a better environment for tissues to repair.

It can be used on its own as a course of injections, or together with SVF.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

The doctor examines the joint, reviews your X-rays, MRI or ultrasound and decides whether the procedure suits you. If you already have scans, you can send them before the visit.

Blood sample for PRP

From a vein, a small amount of blood is taken. It is later used to prepare plasma rich in platelets and growth factors.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

About 30 ml of adipose tissue is collected through a puncture on the abdomen or the inner thigh under local anaesthetic. The puncture needs no stitches.

Processing in a centrifuge

After centrifuging, the sample forms separate layers; the stromal vascular fraction is taken from them and combined with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

With ultrasound guiding the needle, the prepared material is injected directly and precisely into the affected joint.

Follow-up

You go without crutches and without a hospital stay; the doctor keeps in contact after the procedure and follows your joint's progress.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

During follow-up visits the doctor checks the joint's response and adapts the plan: pain usually subsides in the first month, movement improves over about three months and the full effect develops over around six months.

After the procedure

The majority of people are discharged the same day and resume normal daily activity within a day or two; the puncture sites are simply covered with small dressings. Expect the joint to ache somewhat more in the first week — that reaction is normal. Pain usually eases in the first month, mobility and activity improve over roughly three months, and the full effect develops over around six months. The duration varies from person to person and depends on the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors; no one can promise a fixed result. Individual advice on exercise and load for the first weeks comes from your doctor.

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

Joint treatment in Ta'if: what you should know

Joint treatment in Ta'if is built around keeping your own joint. Instead of a long rehabilitation after surgery, you get injections under local anaesthetic, no crutches and no hospital stay, and the doctor stays in touch afterwards.

Keeping a healthy weight and regular, joint-friendly exercise help the result last longer. The doctor explains which activities suit your joint and which loads to avoid — the same advice applies to every patient in Ta'if.

A consultation is the first step for every patient from Ta'if. It is free, and after it you know the method, the number of injections and the cost.
