Grafts are taken from the donor area at the back of the head and moved through micro-punctures of about 1 mm — no scars are left. The doctor and you choose the shape before the operation, taking your facial features into account. Transplanted hair grows for life, and the beard can be trimmed and styled as usual.

Common questions

We tell what people
ask before booking

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes. Living in another city, or another country entirely, is no barrier, and an online review of your case is arranged first.

The base prices are $2,200 (≈ CDF 5,100,000) (FUE), $2,500 (≈ CDF 5,800,000) (DHI) and $2,700 (≈ CDF 6,300,000) (combined). The precise cost is determined at a free consultation and graft count, then fixed in your contract.

Just one day is needed, and you sleep in your own bed.

No. The scalp is numbed by a local anesthetic and stays pain-free.

In FUE, grafts are harvested with a tweezer, no cuts or stitches involved. In DHI, a Choi pen implants grafts without opening channels first. The combined method pairs FUE harvesting with DHI implantation.

The doctor gives you a firm figure during the free consultation, based on what the donor area holds.

The timeline is: 0–10 days healing, 2–4 weeks shedding (normal), 3–4 months new growth, 6–9 months visible density, and 12–18 months for the final result.

Your procedure includes a lifetime hair-growth guarantee under contract.

How a hair transplant is arranged for Kananga

FUE and DHI both work for a patient in Kananga. The skin is not cut open, there is nothing to stitch, local anaesthesia covers the session on its own, and the operation ends on the same day it began.

The first conversation for a resident of Kananga is free and takes place online: the doctor looks at photos of the thinning area and counts the grafts. Every day the clinic is reachable 24/7, so you choose the hour, not the clinic.

The healing part is over in 0-10 days, and the rest is a matter of waiting. At 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed, which is normal and happens to everyone. From 3-4 months the growth begins, quietly and without any fuss.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Andrey M.

I had the operation a month ago. Before and after surgery they were always in touch and helped with questions about my tests. The operation itself went wonderfully, the staff are polite and masters of their craft, you feel you are in safe hands. I am recovering now, and they answer all my questions. I am happy and I recommend them!

DHI hair transplant

Pavel Sinitsyn

The best clinic of all the ones I was choosing from. No regrets at all! The result is simply amazing, I am thrilled. I recommend it to everyone: these people do great work and make people happy. Once again, a huge thank you to everyone. Roman, the head of the clinic, is the best: he was personally in touch with me and looked after my recovery. Thank you for making my dream come true.

FUE hair transplant

Maria Akopyan

I thought about an eyebrow transplant for a long time and finally went for it. At first I was afraid the result would look unnatural, but when I saw my new eyebrows I was delighted! They came out full and in harmony with my face. I can hardly believe that now I just wash my face and go, I have never felt so free. For anyone tired of constant make-up, a transplant is a real lifesaver!

Eyebrow transplant (FUE)

Alexander M.

I really wanted a thick beard, but I had problems with it. I tried every home remedy and minoxidil, and nothing helped. After a long search for the best clinic I settled on this one. Thank you so much for the service, I liked everything and now I am happy! I had the beard transplant 10 months ago and I am very pleased with the result. By the way, the music in the clinic was great, as far as I remember. A friend of mine has already come to you for a transplant on my advice and was also happy with the result. I wish you every success!

Beard transplant (FUE)

Vladimir Z.

I went to the clinic to see a trichologist and had a hair transplant. I really liked the doctor's approach, and all the recommendations helped. I want to point out that nobody tries to sell you extra services: they tell you things as they are, and if some treatment is not needed, they do not push it. Cosy and clean.

DHI hair transplant

Artem Popov

This may sound obvious, but a head of hair really changes everything in your life. You feel much more confident and go through life like a winner. And it is all thanks to the doctor at this clinic and to the staff who take care of their patients. Many thanks to the clinic for a happy life with new hair, for the comfortable conditions and for the professionalism during the hair transplant.

Page medically reviewed by Anastasia A. Kolesnik, hair transplant doctor. Review date: .

Kananga and the question of hair restoration

Kananga, formerly known as Luluabourg, is the capital of the Kasaï-Central Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is the fourth most populous urban area in the country, with an estimated population of 1,524,000 in 2021. In a city of this size, people see each other every day at work, at church, at the market and at the football ground, so a receding hair line or a patchy beard is noticed and discussed more than many men admit.

Patients from Kananga usually ask us the same practical things. Will it look natural? Will anyone notice that something was done? How long until I can go back to my normal life? This text answers these questions with the city in mind: its climate, its rhythm of work and family life, and the way a remote consultation is organised for people who live here.

Hair transplantation by FUE or DHI is a surgical method. Grafts are taken from the back of the head, the donor area, and moved through micro-punctures of about 1 mm, so nothing scars over. It suits men who have lost hair on the frontal hair line, the crown or the temples, and also those who want a fuller, better shaped beard.

Climate of Kananga and what it means for healing

Kananga has a tropical savanna climate, typical of the western part of the country. There is a dry season around June and July and a lengthy though not intense wet season from September to May. For recovery this means that for most of the year you will be healing in warm and humid air, and the planning should follow from that.

In the first days after the operation the treated area needs calm conditions. Heat and sweat are the main enemies of a fresh scalp, so plan the early days indoors or in shade, with good ventilation and a clean pillowcase. Direct midday sun on the scalp should be avoided. If you must go out, ask the surgeon which loose, clean headwear is acceptable and when, because tight caps can rub the grafts.

Dust matters too. In the dry season, dust on unpaved streets and in the wind can irritate the wound, so keep your hands away from the scalp and follow the washing routine given to you by the team. In the long wet season the issue is different: damp air, rain and mud make hygiene and dry bedding a daily task. Neither season rules out the operation; each simply needs its own precautions.

Swelling in the forehead area can appear in the first days. Sleeping with the head raised and keeping cool help. Your coordinator will explain this in detail and will be on the phone 24/7 if something worries you at night.

Choosing the season for your operation

Many patients in Kananga ask whether there is a best month. There is no single right answer, but there are sensible rules. The dry season around June and July offers fewer rainy days and easier movement around the city, yet sun and dust are stronger, so shade and clean headwear become more important. The wet season from September to May brings humidity and mud, but less direct sun on the head.

The more useful question is when you can be quiet for the first 0–10 days of healing. Choose a period without large family ceremonies, long journeys by road, heavy physical work or a busy period at your job. Then count forward: shedding of transplanted hair at 2–4 weeks, new growth at 3–4 months, real density at 6–9 months and the final result at 12–18 months. If an important event is planned in your family, plan the operation so that the early stages pass well before it.

During the online consultation we look at your calendar with you, not only at your scalp. That is the practical way to pick a date that fits your life in Kananga.

Work, study and daily life after the operation

Kananga is an important commercial and administrative centre. People work in trade, offices, schools, transport and services, and some jobs involve hours outdoors. A man who sells at an outdoor market or works on the street will have a different plan from someone in an office. Tell the coordinator exactly what your day looks like.

The first 0–10 days are for healing. Dust, sweat, crowds and physical work are best avoided in this period, so office and study duties are usually easier to resume than outdoor labour. Ask the surgeon in your case when light work is reasonable and when heavy lifting is acceptable.

Do not be alarmed by shedding. At 2–4 weeks the transplanted hairs let go, as expected; this is a normal stage, not a failure. You may look thinner for a while, and it is better to be ready for this at work and among friends. Hair comes back at 3–4 months, becomes visibly thicker at 6–9 months, and the settled look arrives at 12–18 months.

Sport, football and physical activity

Football is the most popular sport in Kananga, and the city has many clubs, among them US Tshinkunku, AS Saint-Luc, Jeunesse Sportive de Kananga and Athletic Club du Kasaï. Many men play on weekends with friends or follow matches in crowds. After a transplant both habits need thought.

Playing football means sweat, sun, dust and a risk of a blow to the head. For this reason, ask the surgeon before the operation exactly when you may return to running, training and contact games, and when heading the ball is acceptable. Do not decide this by yourself because you feel well. A scalp can feel fine long before the grafts are secure.

Watching matches in a crowd also deserves attention in the early days: strong sun, pushing and dusty air are not good for a healing scalp. Choose a quiet place or wait. Swimming in a river or pool should also be discussed with the doctor before you plan it; do not enter open water until you have been told it is allowed.

Food, family events and beard transplantation

Meals in Kananga are often shared, and family gatherings, church events and celebrations are central to social life. Hot kitchens, smoke from cooking fires and long hours at a crowded table are not ideal in the first days of healing. Ask relatives to help so that you can rest, and keep your head away from steam and smoke.

Balanced eating supports recovery in general. Heavy alcohol use is a question to raise with the surgeon before the date. Smoking is another topic for the consultation, because it can interfere with healing.

Many men from Kananga ask about the beard rather than the scalp. The method is the same: the doctor discusses the shape with you before the operation, taking your facial features into account. Transplanted hair grows for life: trim and style the beard as usual. One patient described it this way: the result truly made him very happy; from about the 4th month active, even growth began, the transplanted hair took very well, the beard looked as natural as possible, no bald patches were left, and it became much thicker and denser, with the shape he had thought about for a long time.

Candidates, contraindications and questions for the surgeon

A good candidate has enough healthy hair in the donor area at the back of the head and realistic expectations. Younger men whose hair loss is still progressing may need a longer conversation about planning. Some conditions make surgery unsuitable or require a delay: unstable chronic illness, skin disease in the donor or treated area, poor blood clotting, or an active infection. Tell the team about all medicines and illnesses without hiding anything.

Excess weight and general health can also matter for any operation; the World Health Organization describes overweight and obesity as a broad health issue, so be honest about your health history during the consultation.

Prepare your questions in advance. Who will perform the operation and who plans the hair line? How will the shape be chosen for my face? What are the limits of my donor area? What care is needed in the dry and in the wet season in Kananga? When can I go back to work and to football? Which signs should make me call the coordinator at once?

Be careful with anyone who promises a particular number of hairs or a perfect result without examining photos. Good planning begins with an honest assessment.

Hair, headwear and appearance in Kananga's public life

Kananga is the capital of Kasaï-Central, and it is also the seat of the archdiocese of Kananga. That gives the city a strong rhythm of Sunday services, weddings, funerals and parish gatherings, where men are seen in their best clothes and photographs are taken. Many patients plan a hair transplant with these occasions in mind, and it is wise to talk about them openly during the consultation.

A transplant is not invisible in the first weeks. The scalp can look red, small scabs form in the treated area, and later the transplanted hairs let go, as expected, at 2-4 weeks. If you have a ceremony in that period, tell your coordinator early so the date of the operation can be moved. Never wear a tight hat or a borrowed cap just to hide the scalp; ask the surgeon which loose covering is acceptable.

The reward comes later: hair comes back at 3-4 months, looks visibly thicker at 6-9 months and settles at 12-18 months. Men who plan around that timeline usually feel calmer in the middle stage, when the head can look worse before it looks better.

Living near the Lulua River: water, bathing and hygiene

Kananga lies near the Lulua River, a tributary of the Kasai River. For many families the river and its banks are part of weekend leisure, washing and play. After a transplant, open water is a question to settle with the surgeon before the date, not after it. Do not go into a river, a pond or a public pool until you have been told it is allowed.

In a warm, humid climate, hair washing during the early days must follow the exact routine your team gives you. Use clean water, clean towels and a freshly washed pillowcase, and keep unwashed hands away from the scalp. If water supply in your home is irregular, say so during the online consultation. The coordinator can then help you prepare clean water in advance for the first days.

The same advice applies to the donor area at the back of the head. It is part of the operation and needs the same gentle care as the front.

Transport, markets and crowds during the first days

Kananga is an important commercial centre, and the Ilebo-Lubumbashi railway runs near the city. Markets, shared transport and busy streets are part of ordinary life here. In the first 0-10 days of healing, crowds and jostling are a real concern because a knock to the scalp can disturb fresh grafts.

Arrange for a relative or a colleague to take you home after the operation and to do the shopping for the first days. If you run a stall or a small business, ask a trusted person to cover for you. Keeping the head cool, shaded and protected is easier when you are not squeezed into a crowded vehicle in the midday heat.

Think about the road home too: long dusty journeys in the dry season are tiring for a healing scalp. Plan a quiet first night at home, with your head raised on pillows.

Talking to family and friends about the operation

In a city where neighbours know each other, a hair transplant often becomes a topic for the whole street. Some men prefer to tell their wife or husband, parents and one close friend only. Others are happy to share. Decide in advance what you will say, because questions come especially during the shedding stage at 2-4 weeks.

It helps to explain that the shedding is a normal step and that the final look comes at 12-18 months. Relatives who understand the timeline will support you instead of worrying. Your coordinator can answer their questions as well, since a coordinator will be on the phone 24/7.

Follow-up keeps you steady as well: check-ups at months 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 mean you can compare your progress with a plan rather than with rumours.

How the remote consultation works from Kananga

The first consultation is free and online. You contact the coordinators on Telegram or WhatsApp, available around the clock, so you can write at the time that suits you, whether that is after work, in the evening or on a day off. Send clear photos of the front, top, crown and back of the head, and of the beard if that is your goal.

The doctor studies the photos, discusses the shape with you and explains whether the operation is suitable. You get an honest answer about the donor area and the method, FUE or DHI. Then the plan is built around your calendar, work, family and sport.

We stay with you from pre-op planning to 12 months later. Check-ups are at months 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12, so you are not left alone during shedding or while waiting for growth. A coordinator will be on the phone 24/7.

Is the consultation really free for people in Kananga?

Yes. The online consultation is free. You write to a coordinator on Telegram or WhatsApp from Kananga, send photos and receive an assessment.

When will I see the result?

Transplanted hairs let go at 2–4 weeks, as expected. Hair comes back at 3–4 months, becomes visibly thicker at 6–9 months, and the settled look arrives at 12–18 months.

How long does healing take?

The healing period is 0–10 days. During this time avoid sun, dust, sweat and heavy work, and follow the care instructions.

Does the dry or the wet season matter more?

Both need care. In the dry season around June and July sun and dust are stronger; in the wet season from September to May humidity and mud make hygiene harder. Your coordinator will explain the routine for the season you choose.

Will there be visible scars?

Grafts are taken from the back of the head and moved through micro-punctures of about 1 mm, so nothing scars over.

Can I play football after a transplant?

Not at once. Ask the surgeon for the exact timing of running and contact games. A blow to the head or heavy sweating too early can harm the grafts.

Can the beard be transplanted too?

Yes. The doctor discusses the shape with you beforehand, taking your facial features into account. Transplanted hair grows for life: trim and style the beard as usual.

Why does my hair fall out after the operation?

This is normal shedding at 2–4 weeks. The transplanted hairs let go, as expected, and new growth begins at 3–4 months.

What follow-up do I get?

We stay with you from pre-op planning to 12 months later, with check-ups at months 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12.

Who can help me at night if I am worried?

A coordinator will be on the phone 24/7, and you can also write on Telegram or WhatsApp at any hour.

Can I attend church or a family ceremony soon after the operation?

It is better to choose a date when the first 0-10 days of healing and the shedding stage at 2-4 weeks do not fall on an important event. Ask your coordinator to plan the date around your calendar.

Is it safe to bathe in the river after a transplant?

Do not enter a river, pond or pool until the surgeon allows it. Open water and an unhealed scalp do not go together; follow the washing routine given by the team.

What if I cannot keep a clean environment at home?

Tell the coordinator during the free online consultation. Hygiene, clean bedding and clean water for washing can be planned beforehand, and a coordinator will be on the phone 24/7 if you have doubts.
