BMI is the key measure used to assess how severe obesity is. You get it by dividing body weight (kg) by height squared (m²). Recovery varies with your activities. Office work: after 2–4 weeks. Physical work: after 1.5 months. Sport and activity: swimming is permitted after 30 days; other exercise is added gradually as weight decreases. Travel and holidays: best scheduled at least a month after surgery.

Eating changes gradually: liquid food first, then soft, then solid. The focus is protein, with high-calorie, fatty food kept to a minimum.

You can become pregnant after bariatric surgery, but doctors advise a wait of at least 12–18 months. Over this period the body stabilizes, weight hits target values and nutritional status normalizes.
