A doctor looks at your case and tests first, then PRP and SVF cell therapy can become part of arthritis care for the knee, hand, shoulder or other joints

With arthritis, a joint is inflamed. Signs to watch for: pain while resting and at night, morning stiffness lasting more than half an hour, swelling, redness and warmth over the joint. There are several causes — autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid, psoriatic arthritis), gout, infection or an injury from the past.
PRP and SVF can lessen inflammation and pain and back up the tissues in the joint, but systemic disease remains the rheumatologist's job. The procedure is skipped while there is an active joint infection or a severe flare, and the doctor first confirms the form of arthritis before choosing when to proceed.

Elbow
Pain after overuse or sports strain, wear of the joint surfaces
Hand and wrist joints
Small finger and wrist joints that feel stiff and hurt
Knee
Cartilage wear, meniscus problems, pain on stairs and after walking
Hip
Early hip osteoarthritis, groin pain, limited rotation
Ankle
Pain and stiffness after sprains and old injuries
Shoulder
Pain when lifting the arm, and wear affecting the joint and surrounding tendons

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue
To obtain the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), a mix of cells that support tissue repair, a small sample of your adipose tissue is processed. The SVF is combined with your own plasma and injected into the affected joint.
In cases of inflammatory arthritis it comes in once the acute flare has eased, for its effect on local inflammation and repair of tissue.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood
It helps calm inflammation and improves conditions for tissue repair: plasma rich in platelets and growth factors, separated from a small amount of your blood and injected into the joint.
It can be advised for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory arthritis, as a single element of the wider treatment plan.

Consultation and scan review
Whether the procedure suits you is decided once the doctor has examined your joint and reviewed your X-rays, MRI or ultrasound. If scans already exist, you can send them before visiting.

Blood sample for PRP
A small blood sample is taken from a vein. Later, platelet-rich plasma with growth factors is prepared from this blood.
The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample
A small portion of adipose tissue (about 30 ml) is collected under local anaesthetic through a puncture on the abdomen or inner thigh, with no stitches needed.

Processing in a centrifuge
In a centrifuge the sample separates into layers; the stromal vascular fraction is then isolated and mixed with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint
The affected joint receives the prepared material by direct injection under ultrasound guidance, for precise placement.

Follow-up
No hospital stay and no crutches. Once the procedure is done, the doctor remains in touch and tracks how your joint responds.

Follow-up visits
With follow-up visits the doctor can see how the joint responds and change the plan if needed. As a rule, pain eases in the first month, mobility improves across about three months, and the full effect takes around six months to develop.

Most patients return home the same day and to normal activity within a day or two; small dressings are put over the puncture sites. The first week may bring slightly more aching in the joint, which is an expected reaction. During the first month the pain tends to ease, during about three months mobility and activity improve, and over around six months the full effect develops. How long it lasts depends on the person — the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors — so a fixed result cannot be promised by anyone. Do not stop medication prescribed by your rheumatologist without talking to them first.
We aim to preserve your own joint instead of replacing it — treatment without surgery

Your own tissue
The treatment relies only on your own blood and adipose tissue, not on donor or synthetic material

No crutches
Local anaesthetic, punctures rather than incisions, and no long rehabilitation

Second opinion
Send us your X-rays, MRI or medical reports for a free, independent assessment by a doctor

Support after the procedure
The result matters to us beyond injection day, so we stay in touch after the procedure
You learn the cost from the doctor after the consultation, as it depends on the joint, the method and the type of arthritis

What is arthritis and what are its symptoms?
With arthritis, the joints are affected by inflammation. Typical are pain even at rest and at night, stiffness on waking that lasts more than 30 minutes, swelling, redness and a warm joint. Possible causes: autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, infections, gout and psoriasis.
Can PRP help with rheumatoid arthritis?
It does not replace the treatment prescribed by your rheumatologist, but PRP can complement it: in rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritis it may help reduce local inflammation, pain and swelling, as platelet growth factors influence the immune response and tissue repair.
Can psoriatic arthritis be cured?
Regenerative injections can be one part of the plan for psoriatic arthritis — a chronic disease that cannot currently be cured completely, where the aim is long remission, controlled inflammation and no joint deformity.
How does SVF work in autoimmune arthritis?
The cells in SVF can modulate the immune response locally and support repair of damaged joint tissue. As research in this area continues, the doctor will discuss what you can realistically expect for your type of arthritis.
When is the treatment not suitable?
It is not done during an active joint infection, a severe flare, pregnancy, cancer or blood clotting disorders. In these cases the doctor postpones the procedure or suggests another option.
How is knee arthritis different from osteoarthritis?
In knee arthritis the inflammation comes from an autoimmune reaction, infection or gout: the knee is red, warm, markedly swollen and tender to touch. Osteoarthritis, by contrast, is cartilage wear, usually felt as a dry crunch and aching pain when moving.
Why does an arthritic joint hurt even at rest?
The joint's pain receptors are stimulated by inflammation continuously: during movement, at rest and at night. Easing this pain is possible with treatment that reduces inflammation, including PRP and SVF.
Can joint injections be done during pregnancy?
No. Joint injections, PRP and SVF included, are contraindicated in pregnancy. Treatment of arthritis during pregnancy is decided only together with an obstetrician and a rheumatologist.
Can I get a second opinion on my tests and scans?
Yes. Once you send your X-rays, MRI, ultrasound or blood test results, a doctor reviews them at no cost and says whether regenerative treatment could suit your type of arthritis.
What happens if rheumatoid arthritis is not treated?
Permanent joint deformity, loss of function, osteoporosis and damage to internal organs such as the heart, lungs and kidneys can follow if it goes untreated. Timely treatment is needed to prevent this.
SVF contains cells that can modulate the local immune response and support the repair of damaged tissue. Research is ongoing, so the doctor discusses realistic expectations with every patient in Istanbul.
Pain usually eases over the first month, and mobility improves over about three months. For patients from Istanbul, the full effect develops over around six months, and its duration differs from person to person.
A consultation is the first step for every patient from Istanbul. It is free, and after it you know whether the treatment fits, the method and the cost.
