What is arthritis
and when does this treatment fit?

An inflamed joint is the core of arthritis. Look for pain at night or when resting, stiffness in the morning for longer than half an hour, swelling, and a joint that is red and warm. The cause can be autoimmune (rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis), gout, infection or a long-past injury.

Used well, PRP and SVF may ease pain and inflammation and support the joint's internal tissues; still, a systemic disease needs a rheumatologist, and the injections do not replace that care. No procedure takes place during an active joint infection or a severe flare — the type of arthritis is confirmed and the moment chosen first.

Joints we treat

From large joints to small ones — which joint, which method and how many injections is decided by the doctor once your scans are reviewed

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Processing a small sample of adipose tissue from your body isolates the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) — cells that play a part in tissue repair. This is combined with your plasma and injected straight into the affected joint.

Inflammatory arthritis is one use for it, once the acute flare has settled — because it acts on local inflammation and tissue repair.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

Your blood, in a small amount, provides plasma rich in platelets and growth factors; injected into the joint, it helps ease inflammation and creates better conditions for repair of the tissues.

Rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritis may call for it as one part of the overall treatment plan.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

The doctor decides on the procedure only after examining the joint and reviewing your X-rays, MRI or ultrasound. You are welcome to send any scans you have before the appointment.

Blood sample for PRP

Platelet-rich plasma with growth factors is prepared later from a small amount of blood taken from your vein.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

Through a puncture on the inner thigh or abdomen, and under local anaesthetic, about 30 ml of adipose tissue is taken. Stitches are not needed.

Processing in a centrifuge

Separated into layers by spinning in a centrifuge, the sample yields the stromal vascular fraction, which is isolated and mixed with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

The prepared material is placed precisely: it is injected directly into the affected joint under ultrasound guidance.

Follow-up

The doctor follows how the joint responds and stays in touch after the procedure — and you need no crutches or hospital stay.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

At follow-up visits the doctor sees how the joint is responding and adjusts the plan. Pain usually eases in the first month, mobility improves over about three months, and the full effect builds over around six months.

After the procedure

After the procedure most patients leave the same day and resume ordinary daily activity within a day or two, with small dressings on the puncture sites. Slightly more aching in the joint during the first week is an expected reaction. Pain generally eases in the first month, mobility and activity get better over about three months, and the full effect develops over roughly six months. Duration varies from one person to another depending on the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors — nobody can promise a set outcome. If a rheumatologist is treating you, talk to them before you stop any prescribed medication.

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

Choosing arthritis treatment in Asyut

Knee arthritis differs from knee osteoarthritis. Arthritis shows redness, warmth, swelling and tenderness to touch; osteoarthritis shows a dry crunch and aching pain on movement. For patients from Asyut, the diagnosis comes first.

If you are being treated by a rheumatologist, do not stop your prescribed medication without talking to them. In Asyut, regenerative injections are planned together with your ongoing treatment.

Send your X-rays, MRI, ultrasound or blood test results. Patients from Asyut receive a free assessment and a clear answer on suitable treatment and its price.
